A Boca Raton woman has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for her role in a scheme to obtain unauthorized loans for students in a nursing program, federal officials said Monday.
Marie M. Jean-Francois, 31, was an employee and director of the Coral Ridge Training School, which offers a licensed practical nurse training program, according to prosecutors. She obtained identifying information from students and arranged for loans they did not approve or know about until they began getting letters from loan servicing companies, U.S. Attorney Wifredo Ferrer’s office said. She pleaded guilty to charges involving wire fraud and identity theft in a scheme that defrauded the Department of Education in online applications, officials said. An attempt to seek comment through her attorney was not immediately successful.
A restitution hearing is set for April 28, court records show.
